Settlement Services Program
Settlement services is an integral part of Northwood Neighbourhood Services with over
8,500 individuals receiving assistance each year. The goal of the
settlement services is to facilitate a smooth and rapid integration for new immigrants and refugees, allowing them to participate fully in all aspects of life in Canada, while encouraging them to realize their potential and to achieve their personal goals and aspirations.
The settlement services include providing information and referral, individual and group counseling, employment help, housing, schooling issues, immigration and sponsorship help, translation and escorting. Information sessions and workshops
are held throughout the year at various locations within the community. Topics cover housing, employment, financial management, stress reduction, health and nutrition, Canadian school system, civic education and matters of access and equity.
In an effort to cope with the changing dynamics of the community Northwood Neighbourhood Services
employs Albanian, Arabic, South Asian, Italian, Somali, Spanish, Vietnamese and Chinese speaking workers. As always, volunteers
are welcome and they help us to promote and manage the settlement services. We remain committed to meeting the ever-changing needs of our community.
